RV Engineering College on Tuesday said one of its staffers, Padmashree D Kivade, had a teacher-pupil relationship with Adithya Prasad, 22, who committed suicide in her residence on Saturday.

The police, however, were checking the mobile phone records and e-mail communication between the lecturer and the deceased eight semester student to find out the relationship the duo had maintained.

Adithya had used Padmashree’s dupatta to hang himself at her BEML Layout residence in Rajarajeshwari Nagar. The deceased had a duplicate key of the house, with which he had gained entry when the lecturer was away, police said.

Padmashree was still in a state of shock. After she came to know of Adithya’s death, the lecturer fell unconscious and was treated at the Manipal Hospital. She was later shifted to the Nimhans.

Meanwhile, police registered a case of murder based on a complaint by Adithya’s brother Abhishek Kumar Prasad who arrived in the city with his father Samunath Prasad from Jharkhand, their home state.

The surgeon, who conducted the post-mortem examination at the Victoria Hospital, was not suspecting foul play in Adithya’s death, police said.

Abhishek said in his complaint that his brother was a brilliant student and there was no reason for him to commit suicide. He suspected that someone was behind Adithya’s death.

Police were suspecting that Padmashree and Adithya were close to each other and they had gone out together several times.
Padmashree reportedly told the police that she and Adithya were good friends. She received a call from him while she was at an exhibition in Palace Grounds on Saturday.

Aditya told Padmashree that he was at her house and requested her to return home, where she found him hanging.

Police said Padmashree called a doctor from a private clinic and together untied Adithya and rushed him in an ambulance to Manipal Hospital. She lost consciousness as the doctors declared him “dead on arrival.”
