Monsoon to hit Delhi in two days: IMD

'The south-west monsoon has revived. The monsoon is expected to hit Delhi by July 5 or 6,' BP Yadav, the director of India meteorological department said.

The monsoon is expected to hit the national capital in the next couple of days, the weatherman said today.

"The south-west monsoon has revived and conditions are favourable for it to cover the rest of the country by the next four to five days. The monsoon is expected to hit Delhi by July 5 or 6," BP Yadav, the director of India meteorological department (IMD), told PTI.

The seasonal rains phenomenon had missed the onset date of June 29 in the capital. Last year, the monsoon had reached the city on June 30.

The monsoon has advanced into remaining parts of Gujarat, South Rajasthan, some parts of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh due to a low pressure area brewing up in the Bay of Bengal, Yadav said.

The monsoon rains have been 16% below normal for this season, mostly due to sluggish progress. The annual rains have not advanced since June 18 when they covered half of the country.

Pre-monsoon condition has already become active in the national capital with the city recording moderate rains this morning. The minimum temperature settled at a comfortable 25.5 C against 30.5 degrees yesterday.
