Monsoon continued to remain active in north India with rains drenching most parts of the region, claiming five lives in Uttar Pradesh.
 
Four persons were killed after a lightning hit them in UP's Allahabad district, while a 60-year-old man drowned in the overflowing Tamsa river in Azamgarh.
 
Though Ganga river has started receding at a number of places in the state, other rivers like Ramganga, Yamuna, Sharda, Ghaghara and Rapti continued to flow above the danger mark.
 
Rains lashed various parts of Punjab and Haryana with Chandigarh receiving 9.2mm of rainfall and recording maximum temperature of 31.9 degree Celsius.
 
Hisar in Haryana, which recorded 38.7mm rainfall, the maximum temperature settled at 32.9 deg C, down by three notches. In Punjab, Amritsar and Ludhiana recorded maximum temperature of 32.9 deg C and 32.8 deg C respectively.
 
Moderate to heavy rains continued to lash Uttarakhand, triggering landslides at many places in the state.
 
Landslides hit various places in Chamoli and Uttarkashi districts, blocking the routes to Hindu shrines of Badrinath, Gangotri and Yamunotri.
 
Heavy showers lashed Rajasthan with Bharatpur getting the maximum rainfall of 11cm followed by Roopwas at 8cm and Dausa at 7cm.

In Himachal Pradesh, Renuka, Nahan and Paonta catchment areas of Yamuna were lashed by heavy rains while Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Una in lower hills received moderate rains.
 
The day temperatures dropped marginally in mid and higher hills, while the night temperatures remained two to six deg C above normal due to high humidity.
 
Renuka was wettest in the region with 147mm rains, followed by Nahan at 67mm, Naina Devi 65mm, Bangana 59mm and Dharamsala 54.2mm.
 
The Met forecast heavy rainfall at many places in the region tomorrow.
