Mohammed Azharuddin comes to bat for Ahmedabad's Congress candidates

“Jitega bhai jitega, punja Jitega!" went the chorus when a caravan of dozens of cars drove into the narrow streets of Millatnagar in Dani Limda ward as former Indian cricket team captain and Congress MP from Moradabad, Mohammed Azharuddin headed a road show to campaign for three Congress candidates.

Azharuddin campaigned mostly in minority dominated areas for Congress candidates on Thursday. During his day-long visit to the city, Azharuddin took out road shows in Behrampura, Dani Limda, Shahpur and Sarkhej among others.

Azharuddin's road shows received warm response as people cheered for him and eagerly waited outside their homes to get a glimpse of the cricketer turned MP. "It is not everyday that celebrities come to our area. It is an exciting moment to see Azhar campaign for the Congress candidates in our area," said one of the onlookers. 

Meanwhile, the Congress candidates and leaders did not waste
a chance to boast who was responsible for bringing the star campaigner to the city.

An MLAs said that it was him who brought Azhar to campaign for the party while supporters in Dani Limda said that it was Azhar's and Nawab builder owners' common friend who brought him to the city ahead of the AMC elections.
