If you are wondering what prompts Chief Minister Narendra Modi to ban books and movies in the state, you can ask him on Teacher’s Day on September 5. Like last year, Narendra Modi will be addressing a crowd of lakhs of students of primary and secondary schools in the state through video conferencing. However, seven districts of the state, where by-elections are scheduled, will be excluded.

Last year, when Modi started this move, many eyebrows were twisted in surprises. It was made mandatory for school principals to arrange for TV sets on the premises to ensure that students and teachers get to see the live show.

According to a source, preparation for this grand show has already started. All schools and colleges have been asked to arrange for TV sets to ensure that Modi’s live show on September 5 is viewed by all. Principals, on the other hand, are not happy with the move and are saying that the chief minister is playing a spoilsport on Teacher’s Day. An angry principal, on the condition of anonymity, said that the chief minister is not doing anything for the betterment of the students.

However, owing to the impending elections, schools in the seven districts will not have the opportunity. These districts are Chotila, Jasdan, Dhoraji, Kodinar, Dehgam, Sami Harij and Danta.

Sources said that the schools have been asked to collect questions from the students. Once the questions are collected they will be scrutinised at district level, and only ‘best’ questions will be answered by the chief minister.

“We are expecting some questions related to the recent ban on book written by Jaswant Singh. However, we are yet to get the list of questions. We are not sure about the number of issues the chief minister will address,” said a highly placed source.

On the other hand, when asked about this year’s programme for Teacher’s Day, principal secretary for education in the state Hasmukh Adhia said that preparations are afoot and schools have been asked to collect questions from the students.
