The BJP organising secretary for Maharashtra, Kaptan Singh Solanki said here today that but for the MNS, the BJP-Shiv Sena alliance would have come to power in the State.
"The MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena)hit the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance in at least 54 constituencies," Solanki said.
The BJP MP said that because of the presence of the MNS, the anti-incumbancy votes were divided and this benefitted the Congress-NCP combine.
Solanki said that the Shiv Sena was the major partner in the alliance with the BJP and when Shiv Sena took a beating from the MNS, the alliance was bound to fall short of a majority.
He said that both the Congress and the NCP were plagued by serious infighting because of which there had been a big delay in the formation of the new Maharashtra government.
"The Congress-NCP alliance was in power not by design but by default," Solanki said adding that it may not last the full five-year term in office.
