Mixed response to nation-wide strike in Puducherry

The nation-wide general strike called for by various trade unions against among other things price rise evoked mixed response in Puducherry.

Functioning of most of the banks were affected due to the strike, police said, adding, BSNL staff also abstained from work.

Leaders belonging to various political parties and trade union were arrested for trying to block the roads as part of the strike.

No untoward incident was reported from anywhere in the union territory so far, police said.
