A protestant church, located atop a hillock near Tiruttani in Tamil Nadu's Tiruvallore district, has been damaged by miscreants, according to its pastor.

Pastor Jeevandam, who maintains the church, told PTI that the roof and window of the church, called 'prince of peace', besides benches and desks inside were found damaged when he opened it for prayers on February 25.

He immediately lodged a complaint with the police.

We are verifying the incident and are hopeful of nabbing the culprits soon, police said.

The church, located in government forest land, was in existence for the past 40 years. The church was constructed in 1971 and the hillock was declared as forest land only in 1991, Jeevandam said.

A group of people undertook a 'prayer-cum-fast' near the church early this week demanding action against the culprits.
