Hurriyat chairman said Kashmir struggle is indigenous which has been launched by its people for their 'right to self determination'.
Back from Geneva and Saudi Arabia, moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq lashed out at US attorney Neil H Macbride for claiming the separatist leader has been “supported and controlled by ISI of Pakistan”.
Macbride had made the claim before the US District Court in Alexandria, Virginia, that sentenced Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai, executive director of Kashmiri American Council (KAC), two years in jail for allegedly working for ISI.
“Macbride’s statement is frivolous and laughable, which warrants strong condemnation. It was not just Hurriyat or pro-movement people, but some Indian intellectuals who believe in human rights and justice had written communiqué in favour of Fai,” said Mirwaiz.

“Ours is people’s movement. People have given umpteen sacrifices for achieving their goal. We are fighting on different fronts both locally and internationally. The role of Kashmir diaspora is worth appreciation for highlighting the Kashmir issue internationally,” he said.
Supporting Fai, Mirwaiz said his role in highlighting the Kashmir issue cannot be ignored. “US action against Fai is highly regrettable and condemnable. Despite this our efforts to highlight Kashmir cause internationally will continue unabated,” he said.
The hardline faction of Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Shah Geelani also condemned the US for sentencing Fai to jail and blamed New Delhi for lobbying hard against the KAC director. Hurriyat hardliners have called an extraordinary meeting on March 3 to discuss the fallout of the Fai sentencing.
