A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped and hanged inside a police station premise in Nighasan area Lakhimpur after which all the 11 policemen posted there were suspended.

"The girl had taken her cattle for grazing in the rear side of the building. When she did not return till late hours her mother went to the spot and found the girl's body hanging from the tree," superintendent of police DK Rai said.
On the basis of a complaint lodged by the girl's mother a case of rape and murder has been registered, he added.
"All the 11 policemen, including station officer and two sub-inspectors, who were present at the police station, have been placed under suspension," Rai said.
"We have requested for a magisterial inquiry into the incident and a separate inquiry by additional SP has been constituted to probe the role of any policeman in the case," the SP said.
He added that the post-mortem of the body was conducted by a panel of three doctors and the entire procedure has been videographed.
"The victim's father works as chowkidar at the building. There was separate gate used by him and his family," the SP said, adding that they used to stay adjacent to the police station premise.
Leader of opposition in UP Assembly Shivpal Singh Yadav told reporters in Lukhnow, "Party MLAs RA Usmani and Krishna Gopal Patel are already staging dharna in front of the police station".
Yadav demanded that an independent inquiry should be conducted and guilty policemen should be jailed.
