In order to jazz up the Commonwealth Games theme song, Milkha Singh, Abhinav Bindra and Saina Nehwal were flown in from all over the country to shoot for the song in Mumbai last week.

They were made to run, jog and get into sporting action, under the direction of a team led by AR Rahman. Milkha Singh, who flew in from Chandigarh, was made to run with the flag.

Saina Nehwal’s father, Dr Harvir Singh, told DNA that the shuttler was asked by the Games cultural committee to carry her track suit, badminton racket and kit for the video shoot in Mumbai. It was a day-long trip to Mumbai, and the shooting was done under the guidance of Rahman. Saina’s father said it was a pleasure for her to meet Milkha Singh, who was full of praise for her. Apart from Milkha, Abhinav and Saina, sprinter PT Usha was also invited for the shoot. Usha was not available for comment.

The team is learnt to have travelled to Sonepat, the venue of the wrestling camp, to catch wrestler Sushil Kumar in action. Lyricist Prasoon Joshi, who’s part of the culture committee, had earlier said that Malleswari would feature in the theme video, but Malleswari did not get an invite.
