Mercury soars in Punjab, Haryana

Mercury today showed a rising trend in most parts of Punjab and Haryana with high humidity making life difficult for people.
 
The maximum temperature hovered between one to five degrees above normal with Hissar being the hottest in the region at 41.4 deg C, five notches above normal.
 
The high in Chandigarh stood at 36.6 degree Celsius, three notches above normal, while that in Ambala was 35.7 deg C, two notches above normal.
 
Among other places, Patiala had a high of 35.3 deg C, followed by Amritsar 35.1 deg C and Ludhiana 34.8 deg C.
 
Barring Ludhiana, which recorded 6.5 mm rainfall, rains eluded most parts of the region with humidity levels ranging between 80 and 95%.
 
However, the Met office forecast a spell of rains or thundershowers at some places besides enhanced monsoon activity.
