Early morning mist gave way to a bright sun in the national capital where the mercury slid below the normal range after heavy showers last evening.

The low was recorded at 9.6 degree Celsius, a degree below normal and a degree less than yesterday's minimum of 10.3 degrees, the MeT office said. The maximum temperature settled at 26.4 degree Celsius yesterday.

The mercury dipped below normal after heavy rains accompanied by thunder squall lashed the city yesterday afternoon and went on till late in the evening. The capital recorded 14.9 mm of rains in 24 hours ending at 8.30 am, a MeT official said.

There was mist in the early hours today which gave way to a bright sun. The weatherman has forecast mist or shallow fog in the morning and mainly clear sky in the day tomorrow. The sky may turn partly cloudy later while there was no possibility of rain, the MeT said.

The temperature is likely to be between 9 and 23 degrees.

The first week of February saw the temperatures rise well above normal levels, but a spell of rain early last week brought the temperatures down.
