Security forces in Meghalaya have been put on alert especially in Meghalaya-Assam border ahead of ULFA's raising day on April 7, top police officers said on Monday.

The alert came in the wake of the report that a top leader of the anti-talk faction of ULFA Dristi Rajkhowa currently being holed up in between Goalpara district of Assam and East Garo Hills district of Meghalaya.

"We are alert and continuing with our operation against militants inside Meghalaya while they (Assam police) are engaged in their territory irrespective of which group is celebrating what," Director General of Police N Ramachandran said.

He said, "We are sharing information with our counterparts in Assam and we are working closely with each other to foil any attempt to disrupt peace and normal life.

Police in Meghalaya believe that the anti-talk faction of ULFA has been working closely with Garo Hills-based Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA).

ULFA was formed on April 7, 1979, at Rang Ghar in Sibsagar of Assam.
