Amid serious concerns over timely completion of Commonwealth Games projects, the MCD today claimed that 98% of its works is over and the rest will be done by the deadline of August 31.

The civic body, which also missed today's deadline of removing the construction waste lying on city streets, claimed that roads will be cleared of the debris by August-end.

"We have already removed 50,000 tonnes of malba (construction waste) from the roads and the rest will definitely be done by August 31. The problem is that as works are yet to be over, more waste is being generated," mayor Prithvi Raj Sawhney said.

He also blamed agencies like NDPL and BSES which were digging the roads for cable laying work. "This is hampering and delaying the work. There is lack of coordination among various agencies in the capital," Sawhney said.

The mayor claimed that the MCD has completed "98% of its works related to the Commonwealth Games and the rest 2% will be done by the August 31 deadline".

He said only the work of improvement of lanes and roads leading to hotels and guest houses in Karol Bagh and Paharganj is lagging behind but it will be completed by the time-frame, which was set by Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit at a meeting of various implementing agencies.
