Mayawati lauds police for maintaining peace post Ayodhya verdict

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati today lauded the state police for providing fool proof security and law and order in the wake of the Allahabad high court verdict in the Ayodhya title suits.
 
"No communal riots have taken place in the state owing to effective policing and fool proof security arrangements after the pronouncement of the verdict, though the central government did not extend full assistance and against the requirement of 642 companies of the CPMF only 52 companies were provided to the state," the chief minister said while addressing policemen on the commemoration day here.
 
During the recently held Commonwealth Games, road cycling event was organised in Gautam Budh Nagar for which security and law and order arrangments were made according to international parametres, she said.
 
Paying tributes to the personnel who lost their lives while discharging their duties, Mayawati assured their family members that govenment would continue all necessary steps for their welfare and facilities.
 
Speaking of the steps taken by her government for the welfare of the personnel, she mentioned "extra ordinary pension" given to the dependent family members besides the contributory pension scheme.
 
She said that her government had paid full attention on availability of resources and had released more than Rs225 crore for purchasing modern weapons, communication and anti-riot equipment, security and training vehicles.
 
She said that with a view to providing residential facilities to police personnel, 687 residential buildings had been constructed besides the construction of administratinve buildings of 21 police stations and 11 women police stations.
 
The government has also sanctioned the establishment of women police stations in districts, construction of modern control rooms and constitution of new bomb dispisal squads, she said adding that UP police special zone security force has also been constituted.
 
The UP police recruitment and promotion board has completed the process of selecting 35,000 constables maintaining full transparency which has been appreciated throughout the country, she said, adding that clear cut directives have been issued to take stringent action against those disturbing peace, no matter how powerful they are.
 
She also gave an account of the notorious criminals arrested in the state besides awards given to policemen for doing exemplary work.
