A group of slogan shouting women today tried to stop Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati's convoy in Salaimpur village near Aligarh, holding a state minister responsible for the death of two persons.

Mayawati, who is on a tour of various districts of the state to review development activities had arrived here this afternoon and just when her cavalcade was about to move, about half a dozen women began raising slogans and tried to block its passage by squatting on the road, eye witnesses said.

The women alleged that a minister in the Uttar Pradesh cabinet was responsible for the death of the husband of one of the protestors and the father of another.

However, within minutes, the police officials managed to clear the road by hustling them away.

District officials refused to comment on the incident.

In Aligarh, also, a group of fifty women tried to protest in front of the chief minister's cavalcade alleging irregularities in the Kashiram Garib Awas Yojna but were dispersed by the police.
