Uttar Pradesh chief minister and BSP supremo Mayawati today asked party leaders in Jharkhand, Bihar and Andhra Pradesh to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level in their respective states.

The directive was issued by the party chief during a meeting of office bearers and other leaders at her official residence during which discussions were held on strengthening the party organisation, a BSP spokesperson said in Lucknow.

During the meeting, Mayawati alleged that despite being rich in natural resources, Jharkhand trailed in terms of development due to a decade-old misrule of Congress and BJP governments, the spokesman said.

Claiming that the people of Jharkhand wanted to get rid of wrong policies of both the parties, she said the BSP could increase its mass base in the state with efforts made by its workers.

Mayawati said the major reason behind the landslide victory of the Nitish Kumar-led JD(U) and BJP combine in Bihar in the recent assembly elections was that even before the poll results were out, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Ram Vilas Paswan declared themselves as the chief minister and the deputy chief minister.

Keeping in mind the 15 years of misrule by Lalu, people voted in favour of the Nitish-BJP coalition to bring them to power for the second time, Mayawati said, according to the spokesperson.

The BSP supremo said the BSP also suffered a loss due to this wave and directed the leaders and workers to propagate its policies and strengthen the organisation at all levels.

She said due to internal bickering within the ruling Congress, the political situation in Andhra Pradesh was in a state of dilemma.

Stating that BSP was always in favour of smaller states and supported the demand for creation of a separate Telangana, she asked party workers to propagate this policy of the BSP among the people of Andhra Pradesh and work hard to strengthen its mass base in the state.
