The Enforcement Directorate has decided to issue notices to former union minister Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanidhi in connection with its probe in Aircel-Maxis deal. Also, a joint team of Enforcement Directorate and Central Bureau of Investigation will visit Malaysia to expedite agencies request to get details of companies involved. The CBI has already sought permission from the Malaysian government for the visit.
Investigating agencies believe that future of the probe rests on evidence from Malaysia-based companies, Maxis and Astro, both controlled by billionaire businessman T Anand Krishnan.
On Tuesday, the ED has registered a case under Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), pertaining to an alleged illegal gratification of about Rs550 crore allegedly received by the Maran brothers in Aircel-Maxis deal.
