Heat wave conditions persisted over north Gujarat on Wednesday but the maximum temperatures at many places in the state fell by about two degrees.

The maximum temperature in Ahmedabad dropped to 39.8 degree Celsius on Wednesday -- from 42.7 C on Tuesday. The highest maximum temperature in the state, 45 C on Tuesday in the region at Idar and Surendranagar, dropped to 41.5 C on Wednesday.

The low pressure area over the Arabian Sea has turned into 'well marked' from 'low marked,' hence the port warning issued by the weather office on Wednesday continues.

The state's weather office discontinued high temperature warning for parts of north Gujarat and Kutch on Wednesday as maximum temperatures at many places in the state fell from the normal.

Dr. Kamaljit Ray, director, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said, “The low pressure area over east central Arabian Sea has become well marked from its previous low marked status. Hence port warning for south Gujarat issued due to low pressure area over east central Arabian Sea continues. Due to low pressure area, squally weather would prevail in adjoining areas during next 24 hours. Fishermen are not advised to go out to sea during the next 24 hours.”

The warning notes that wind speed will be 35 to 45 kmph from north-westerly direction and the speed in gust may temporarily reach 55 kmph. “IMD is keeping a close watch over the low pressure area,” said Ray.

The weather office forecasts that light to moderate thundershowers will occur at isolated places in all districts of Gujarat region, Saurashtra, Diu, Daman and Dadra Nagar Haveli.

Forecast for city notes a partly cloudy sky with chance of development of thunder clouds towards evening. The maximum temperature will remain around 40 degree Celsius.
