A massive demolition drive in the city is on the cards, courtesy Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's (AMC) estate and town planning department.

AMC has already prepared a list of nearly 1,500 illegal constructions in the city that have come up after March 28, 2011 in all six zones of the city.

March 28, 2011, is deadline for regularising unauthorised constructions in the city under Impact Fees Law. Nearly 350 illegal buildings exist in central zone of the city.

"We have not been able to carry out any major demolition drive in past few months. However, we will strike next week," said sources close to development. The state and town development department of central zone will carry out two major demolition drives every week.

AMC has decided to target illegal buildings and violators of parking space and FSI rules.

"We will target residential and commercial schemes first that are illegally built in the city. There will be no direct impact on end users," said sources.

AMC's south zone has nearly 400 illegal constructions and 120 more exist in new west zone.

AMC on Tuesday demolished a 570 sq mt construction in Pratik Society in Chandlodia area. All demolition activities are being monitored by Municipal commissioner Guruprasad Mohapatra.
