A man, his wife and a woman believed to be the ‘other woman’ took an unusual inspiration from the Ramayan and gave an agni pariksha of sorts to prove their innocence. But in this strange case, instead of fire, the ‘other woman’ was forced to dip her hand in boiling oil. And as if that wasn’t enough, the man and his wife then proceeded to voluntarily dip their hands in boiling oil to prove their innocence as well!

Interestingly, in this case it was the wife who had demanded the pariksha of her husband’s alleged lover. The incident happened in Surendranagar on Sunday when Julie alias Rekha, her husband Ramesh Mohan and her father Ramesh Khoda marched to one Hetal Panara’s house. There, Rekha accused Hetal of having an affair with her husband. A heated argument ensued between the wife and the alleged ‘other woman’.

To settle the matter Rekha, her husband and her father proposed a foolproof plan. Apparently the plan wasn’t burn-proof and so Hetal resisted. “After heated arguments, Rekha, her husband and her father dragged Hetal to a pot full of boiling oil. They then asked Hetal to dip her hand in it to prove her innocence,” investigating officer MD Vaghela of Surendrangar police said. Finding no other escape from the situation, Hetal decided to play along and even proved her innocence but scalded her hand in the process. She had to be taken to a private hospital for treatment.

After that Rekha’s husband proceeded to put his hand in the boiling oil to prove his innocence. His dutiful wife also followed suit. Rekha and her husband then refused medical treatment as they were confident that the burn injuries would not affect them given the fact that they were ‘right’, sources said.

“Hetal has registered a complaint against Rekha, Ramesh and her father. We arrested them on Monday and they have since been released on bail. We are further investigating the matter, “Vaghela added.
