Maoists arrested for attack on JMM leader in Orissa

Two Maoist activists, allegedly involved in an attack on JMM leader Sudama Marandi, were arrested at Suliapada in Orissa's Mayurbhanj district.
 
The police said the ultras, identified as Arabinda Patra (42) of Chabispragana district and Jogeswar Betra (27) of Gopiballavpur district in West Bengal, had been arrested last night and a pistol with ammunition seized from them.
 
Dayal Gangwar, superintendent of police of Mayurbhanj district, told PTI the two were involved in the attack on JMM state president and former MP Sudam Marandi in which two SOG jawans and an ASI were killed while Marandi escaped.
 
The incident took place at Bandap in the Handua police limits on October 13, 2009.
 
Similarly, the duo were also involved in an attack in Kathasirisi in the Suliapada police station area where a timber merchant was shot dead on April 12, this year, Gangawar said.
