The CRPF, which faced a spate of deadly Naxal attacks in recent months, today said it had drawn lessons and rectified its procedures and was hopeful that the Maoist problem will be "overcome" in the near future.

"The Maoist problem will be overcome in the time ahead...it will be well contained and well controlled," Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) chief Vikram Srivastava told reporters here after flagging off a 120-men contingent of the paramilitary force to UN mission in Liberia for rendering civil police duties.

The CRPF has deployed almost 60,000 personnel in the Naxal affected states of the country.

Home minister P Chidambaram had recently said that the government was confident of overcoming the Maoist problem in
the next three years and had prepared a two-pronged strategy
of initiating development and police action in the affected areas.

"With every operation you draw lessons and rectify the the procedures and techniques," Srivastava said.

The CRPF has started undertaking more intelligence based operations in these areas after a spate of attacks like the April six Dantewada strike which claimed the lives of 75 personnel.

Reffering to the situation in Kashmir, where the paramilitary force is battling violent street protests, the CRPF director general said that they have dispatched a set of new anti-riot non-lethal gear for the force deployed there.

"Things are coming under control in the state (Jammu and Kashmir). The CRPF is exercising utmost restraint," he said.

A contingent of the Rapid Action Force (RAF)--the specialised anti-riot unit of the CRPF-- has been sent to the valley, Srivastava said, and expressed confidence that it would be successful in dealing with the situation there.
