While the monsoon has been keeping most of the city and state on their toes, it created a rather peculiar situation in Maninagar. A lake in the area began overflowing, bringing fishes onto the roads! People were seen catching two-feet long cat fishes in this area, that was badly waterlogged by Wednesday evening.

At least 17 societies near the Rastriya Bharti School in Maninagar were under water, with the water level reaching four to five feet in several places by Wednesday evening.

Sattar Society, Nirmal Society, Karnavati Society, Rajesh Society and Haridarshan Society were among those inundated.

Waterlogging disturbed the daily routine of hundreds of people in these localities. Several residents couldn't step out of their homes, thanks to the rising water levels. Many were seen manually flushing the water out of their homes.

"Even the drainage system had started overflowing in the area. Our vehicles are already under water now, and homes are on the verge of being submerged. There has been no help from civic authorities. We might not be able to sleep in the night, because of rising water at our doorstep," said Ranjana Patel, a housewife in Hatkeshwar. The continuous shower took a toll on 84 shops in Raj Chamber, a shopping complex in Maninagar, which were immersed in rainwater. Many shopkeepers looked on helplessly as the waters rose and entered their shops.

"I personally visited the area and the situation is under control. However, we will be ready to give our best for any untoward incident," said Sachin Badshah, DCP of Zone VI.
