Passengers boarding at or disembarking from Maninagar Railway Station will be in for a surprise soon. The broken floor or the station platform including the filthy and unhygienic surroundings in and around the place will be a thing of the past as the open area outside the station is set to get a makeover.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is considering developing the area outside the Maninagar Railway Station for which the civic body has already invited tenders.
A total of 215.41 sq mtr area will be renovated and developed at a cost of Rs6.24 lakh. Apart from leveled footpaths and landscapes, the civic body is planning to have a garden, sitting area and provision of a parking lot in the open place. Moreover, looking at the congestion and traffic because of the passengers, the footpaths will be widened.
Speaking to DNA, a senior official of AMC requesting anonymity, said, "Earlier, the area was encroached upon and was being used as a fruit market. But we want to develop the place including the footpaths and also plan to have some landscapes in front of the open area." The official added that though the proposed parking space will be small, it can still provide relief to the citizens from their parking woes. The parking space developed by the civic body can, however, accommodate 25-30 two wheelers and some 5-6 four wheelers, claimed the AMC official.
Interestingly, this is the third time that AMC has floated tenders for development of the space, but it seems that no contractor is ready to join hands with the civic body in developing the city.
