Police said on October 14, a 32-year-old woman Shani was arrested from a leading gold jewellery shop from the city. She had counterfeit notes with a face value of  Rs 50,000 in her possession.

She had paid Rs 32000 towards the price of two bangles she purchased but the jeweller, suspecting something was amiss, checked the notes and found only three rs 500 notes genuine and the rest fake.

Police suspect that the arrested are links of a large chain of an Indian currency notes counterfeiting gang with inter-State ramifications.
