A man was stabbed to death by his friend in Maninagar on Saturday night after a heated exchange of words. Santosh Sawant, a resident of Ganesh street in Maninagar, on Saturday called Rajesh Bhatt, his friend of many years, to the railway tracks behind Daxini society to settle some issues related to business.

They got into an argument after which Santosh suddenly whipped out a knife and stabbed Bhatt in the chest and the stomach, killing him instantly. At the time of the incident, Santosh was accompanied by his brother Kalpesh.

Rajesh Bhatt, a 45-year-old divorcee, used to earn a livelihood by selling 'sev-usal' on his handcart near Maninagar crossroads. He lived at Deepak apartment in Maninagar with his ailing father who has been bedridden for almost three years. Santosh also lives in the same area and the two were old friends. A few months back, Santosh and Bhatt had a quarrel over some business matter.

After committing the murder, Santosh fled from the scene and is still absconding. Bhatt's brother-in-law, Jagdish Bhatt, has filed a complaint at the Maninagar police station. Kalpesh was arrested on Sunday but Santosh is still traceless. Police said that Santosh is known for his criminal tendencies and three cases are already registered against him at the Amraiwadi police station.
