Four unidentified robbers on motorcycles waylaid a young businessman and fled after robbing him of Rs 25 lakh and shooting at him, police said on Friday.

The incident took place in Peeragarhi in north-west Delhi at around 10:45 pm when Vinay Goel (36) was returning home in his car along with his brother-in-law and a driver, a senior police official said.

Goel is in the business of selling cars and has an Indica car dealership.

Four motorcyclists, who were following him after he left his office, waylaid him. When he resisted the attempt, the robbers opened fire at him and took away the cash bag containing Rs 25 lakh, the official said.

Goel was rushed to Maharaja Agrasen hospital at Paschim Vihar where his condition is stated to be critical, the official said.

"We are investigating the matter. The robbers seem to have prior information about Goel carrying cash," the official said.

A case has been registered and further investigations are on to nab the culprits.
