Man sentenced to life on murder, sodomy charges in Goa

A 31-year-old man, accused of sodomy and murder was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Goa court.

Shahul Hamid from Tamil Nadu was convicted for murdering M Dharmalingam after sodomising him on May 12, 2009 at a office in Ponda.

Principal district and sessions court awarded the life sentence on Friday for killing the victim and five years imprisonment for having unnatural sex.

As per police charge sheet, the deceased was found half naked with a jute string around his neck and hands tied with a towel in the office room.

Both - accused and deceased, were working as a labourer in a pipeline manufacturing firm at Borim village, five kms from Ponda.

Police had chargesheeted Hamid under section 302 (murder) and 377 (unnatural sexual abuse) of Indian Penal Code (IPC).
