Shahpur police were kept on their toes on Tuesday after they received a message via police control room about a murder that had allegedly happened under their jurisdiction. However, investigations revealed it was a hoax call made by a man to settle scores with his daughter's former boyfriend.

Police control room on Tuesday afternoon received a call from an unknown number informing them about one Arif Pathan of Shahpur who had allegedly murdered a man and buried the body in his own garage.

When Shahpur police, armed with the information, reached Pathan's garage, they learnt that it was a hoax call from one Ismail alias Dada of Mirzapur and father to Pathan's former girlfriend.

Upon interrogation, Pathan revealed that he was in love with Ismail's daughter but couldn't marry her as Ismail disapproved of him. It has been many years since the couple broke up and went their separate ways, but Ismail allegedly continues to harass Pathan with such activities.

During their affair, Pathan had given his driving licence and other documents to his girlfriend. He alleged that Ismail, the girl's father, acquired a SIM card on basis of this driving licence and made hoax calls to the police to put him in fix. Even earlier, Ismail had called police control room and said that Pathan was making bombs in his garage. Pathan has filed a case against Ismail with the Shahpur police who are now looking into the matter.
