In a bizarre case, a 21-year-old girl, a resident of Usmanpura, has moved a private complaint before the magistrate court stating that a friend hypnotised her and performed black magic to control her. He then clicked her obscene pictures, got her sign on the marriage certificate and extorted Rs26,000 from her. The court has ordered a judicial inquiry into the case.

Roshni Shah (name changed), an MCom student, met Jignesh Patel, a businessman at her friend's wedding. Shah alleged that since their first meeting, Patel tried to be friendly with her. She was attracted to him due to some black magic trick, she says.

She alleged that two days prior to their date of marriage, Patel called her to meet him. She alleged that he took her to a coffee shop and made her drink coffee, after which she became unconscious. She alleged that Patel then took her to a tantrik at Kadi and performed some pooja on her to get control over her.

After this incident, he took her to a metropolitan magistrate court on October 18 and made her sign a document stating that she was signing it as a witness. He threatened her that if she did not do so, he would eliminate her family. When she reached home, Patel told her that according to the document, they are now married. He then called her up to meet him immediately.

When she met him, he showed her obscene pictures and the marriage certificate which she had signed. He then asked her to pay Rs26,000, failing which he would make the photographs public and malign her reputation. She added that he continued to blackmail her.

Finally, she, with the help of her parents, filed a private complaint in the metropolitan magistrate court. After hearing her advocate's argument, the court ordered for a judicial inquiry. The girl has also moved the family court seeking nullification of the marriage certificate.
