Man held for trying to rape minor Dalit girl

A man was arrested today for allegedly trying to rape a 11-year-old Dalit girl here.

Rajbhupinder Singh was arrested while boarding a bus here this morning in a bid to escape, police said.

Singh allegedly tried to rape the Dalit girl yesterday at his house in village Himmat Pura under Nihalsinghwala sub-division, they said.

The victim, who is Singh's neighbour, raised an alarm. The girl's father and other people in the locality rushed to the spot and rescued her, they said, adding Singh, however, managed to escape.
