Man held for making threat to the life of Kerala chief minister

A man, who allegedly made a threat to the life of Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan, was today arrested in neighbouring Malapuram District.

Babu Chacko (45), who made a telephone call to the Thiruvananthapuram police control room last night threatening that an attempt would be made on the life of Achuthanandan, was arrested from Melattur Railway station, police said.

Chacko made the call from Thiruvananthapuram using a new mobile connection taken recently in the name of his wife Mini.

Then he returned to Melattur last evening itself.Soon after getting the call its source was traced by the police.

He was suspected to have made the call with the intention of causing trouble to his wife, with whom his relations had been strained, police sources said.

Security for the chief minister and government secretariat was tightened in the wake of the call.
