Man arrested with Rs1.45 lakh in fake notes in Delhi

Ravinder Singh, who hails from Bahraich in UP and is presently residing in Mahipalpur, was apprehended from Nabi Karim in central Delhi on a tip-off that he would come to that locality, a senior police official said.

A 35-year-old man hailing from Uttar Pradesh was arrested here allegedly with fake currency which has a face value of Rs1.45 lakh, police said today.

Police claimed to have recovered 145 fake notes of Rs1,000 denomination from him. "The currency appeared genuine and could only be differentiated after rubbing with a finger on which its ink spreads out," the official said.

Singh told police that he is residing in Delhi for the past 16 years and supplies confectionery items to small shopkeepers. Earlier he used to work as a cloth supplier and left that job a year ago.

He came in contact with one Zakir, a resident of Bihar's Motihari, in 2009. Zakir was in the business of selling of clothes at Raksol in Bihar.

"Singh told Zakir that his earnings were meagre and he wanted to make more money. Zakir then induced him to supply fake notes on commission basis to enhance his earnings.

"Thereafter, he started taking fake currency from Zakir at Raksol and used to supply these in Delhi on the instructions of Zakir. He used to get 10 per cent commission," the official said.

Singh told police that Zakir procures counterfeit notes from one Suresh in Nepal, the official added.
