‘Everyone has been informed about the bomb, and now whatever happens will happen with the grace of Allah. We will meet again if we stay alive. Allah Hafiz,’ read a message sent not by any terrorist to his accomplice, but by a prankster to one Maksud, a resident of Jamalpur, on Independence Day.

Horrified Maksud immediately rushed to the Ahmedabad crime branch to inform the police about the message and the possible mishap that may strike the city. Investigations revealed that the SMS was sent via internet without any name or identity.

It was only later that the police found that the SMS was sent by one Hussain Rasiwala, a resident of Moti Vhorwad in Jamalpur. Police arrested Rasiwala who later confessed to his crime and told the police that it was just a prank shot to Maksud.

Investigating officer, cyber crime cell, KK Patel told DNA that although it was a prank, the language used in the SMS was unusual and had created panic on the Independence Day. “We have arrested Rasiwala under the IT Act and will register a case against him,” Patel said.

The police were extra cautious as the SMS was sent on Independence Day, when the possibility of the city being made a target by terrorists cannot be ruled out.

Police investigations have revealed that Rasiwala had SMSed Maksud through mconvey.com website, which provides a free SMS service without disclosing the identity of the sender. “It is a Bangalore-based website; we got information about Rasiwala through the website administrators,” a source close to the development told DNA.
