Mamata meets Chidambaram, discusses law and order in Bengal

Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee today met home minister P Chidambaram ahead of his visit to West Bengal, and is understood to have discussed the law and order situation in the Left-ruled state.

Charging the ruling CPI(M) and the Maoists with being hand in gloves, Banerjee and her party have been alleging that Trinamool Congress workers have been attacked by the Marxist cadres in West Bengal.

Trinamool Congress has also been demanding stoppage of the joint operations against the Maoists in West Bengal by the central paramilitary forces and the state police.

The meeting between Chidambaram and Banerjee lasted about 30 minutes and sources said law and order situation in the state was among the issues discussed.

Chidambaram is slated to meet West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Saturday and visit Lalgarh in West
Midnapore district the next day.
