Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee today said adequate security would be provided to railway minister Mamata Banerjee who had alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched by the CPI(M) to eliminate her.

"I have seen her statement in the newspapers. She is a central minister. Of course, adequate security arrangements will be made," Mukherjee told newsmen when asked about the allegation that Trinamool Congress chief made yesterday.

Banerjee is determined to address a public meeting at Maoist-infested Lalgarh in West Midnapore district on August 9, although chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee had said in the Assembly that the government was against allowing such meetings on account of fears of sudden Maoist attack.

Yesterday, Banerjee had told newsmen that the CPI(M) and some political parties with vested interests had held meeting and plotted to eliminate her.

According to Banerjee, the CPI(M) had discussed at the meeting the formation of suicide squads to eliminate her and that minister and leaders of the party were keeping a watch on her movements.
