On the first day after the arrest of whistleblower IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt, one drama after another kept unfolding as the day progressed. Bhatt was taken to Gaikwad Haveli police station where he spent the night after his arrest by the Ghatlodia police on Friday. On Saturday morning, he was not allowed to meet either his advocate or his well-wishers like danseuse and social activist Mallika Sarabhai and former DGP RB Sreekumar.

A source in the police told DNA that he transfer to the crime branch forced his relatives to write a letter to the DGP and the Ahmedabad police commissioner. Another source in the police said that no police inspector was ready to take the responsibility of a high profile accused staying at the Ghatlodia police station. “It was decided by senior officers that he should be shifted to Haveli PS to spend the night there,” the source said.

Bhatt had food from his home at around 11am in the Gaikwad police station. Mallika Sarabhai and Sreekumar both came to visit him at the police station but they were not allowed to meet him.
Even as Bhatt was held at Haveli police station, a team of Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) sleuths was struggling to get into Bhatt’s house for the second raid there. They were allowed to go inside only after the intervention of Bhatt himself who called his wife on phone from the police station.

Bhatt was produced in the metropolitan court on Saturday. Sanjiv Bhatt was arrested on Friday after he was first called to Ghatlodia police station in connection with a complaint filed by his subordinate Karansinh Panth. The complaint accused Bhatt of illegal confinement and forgery of documents.
