Main accused in Japanese tourist gang rape case arrested in Bihar

The main accused in the 2010 gang rape case of Japanese tourist Nomura was arrested from Bihar's Gaya district today, police said.

Acting on a tip-off, police raided a place under Pharaiya police station and arrested Ranjan Yadav, declared absconder in the case.

Twenty-four-year-old Nomura was allegedly gang-raped when she was going to Gaya station from Bodh Gaya to catch a train on April 16, 2010 in an autorickshaw.

Five persons were named accused in the case and police had succeeded in arresting three of them which have already been convicted through speedy trial within a fortnight of the incident, sources said.

Ranjan Yadav was evading arrest since then.

The police said they have intensified operation to arrest the fifth one involved in the case.
