Maharashtra Government on Tuesday declared its housing policy for policemen, with Home Minister Jayant Patil envisaging housing for all police personnel in next four years. "The policy is capable of providing houses to all policemen in the state during next four years," the minister said, making an announcement in the Legislative Assembly on the last day of the budget session.
   
The policy provides a floor space index of 4 for building houses and other amenities on Home Department land in Mumbai and would also be aplicable for other places in the state although the FSI would vary. Houses would be built in public-private partnership with the Government roping in agencies like CIDCO and MHADA.
       
There are 1.83 lakh police personnel in the state, of which 43,000 are in Mumbai, the minister said. "Presently, houses are available for 83,869 police personnel," he said. The efficiency of policemen would increase with more houses being available for them, he added.
