A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for setting up 2000 megawatt coal-based thermal power plant in Betul district was inked today by the Madhya Pradesh Government with Welspun Urja Madhya Pradesh Limited, Mumbai. The plant is expected to cost about Rs9,000 crore.

The MOU was signed by Energy Secretary SPS Parihar and Vineet Mittal, managing director of the company, official sources said. Additional secretary, energy RK Katare and other senior officers of the department were also present on the occasion.

The state government has so far signed several MOUs for setting up thermal power plants in the state to arrest the deepening power crisis, sources added.
