The Lucknow police seem to be in a hurry to shut cases relating to 1978 batch IAS officer Harminder Raj Singh’s suicide. Additional D-G AK Jain told reporters on Tuesday that there was no need for any further investigation. “It is a case of suicide, the post-mortem report also does not indicate anything otherwise… of course, if any one from his (Singh’s) family demands a probe, we will carry it out,” he said.

Singh’s family members are in Delhi and refused to say anything on the matter.

However, the top officials’ complacency is being questioned as the police have still not found the lead of the bullet which killed Singh. They are also mum on why there was no CT scan of Singh’s head, as the missing bullet may have been lodged inside.

Asked about Singh’s phone call records, ADG AK Jain dismissed the question, saying, “Next, you will ask me what he talked about and to whom…”

The conduct of the police is self-contradictory. While senior sub-inspector KC Tiwari of Hazratganj PS is entrusted with a preliminary inquiry into the matter, additional DG (law and order) Brij Lal told reporters no case had been registered yet. “It’s a clear case of suicide, where is the need to register a case,” he said.  Only an entry about suicide was made in the general diary (GD).
