A 25-year-old Lashkar-e-Taiba member, who was plotting to explode bombs across Bangalore and also kill some prominent Hindu leaders, was arrested by Bangalore Central Crime Branch (CCB) police on Monday.

The arrest came as he was planning to get weapons training in Pakistan.

Syed Abdul Rehman alias Abdur Rehman of Tippunagar in Chamarajpet was supplying arms to terrorists and encouraging local youths to join the jihad.

Police said Rehman started his anti-social activities with motorcycle thefts and burglaries. He was sent to Parappana Agrahara central jail where he met Vikram alias Akram.

Once released, Rehman began supplying arms to Akram and cases were registered against him with police stations in Chandra Layout and Kengeri.

He was again sent to the central jail where he met Fahad, a Pakistani national and member of Al Badar terrorist group, and Afsar who was arrested by Sadashivanagar police for his role in terror activities.

The meeting with the duo changed Rehman into a terrorist. They gave him speeches about Muslim fundamentalism and encouraged him to involve in terror activities. They gave him jihadi literature to read and showed him clippings of terror acts on their mobile phones. They also gave him contact numbers of Lashkar leaders. Released on bail five months ago, Rehman began wooing youths belonging to his community and they hatched plans to unleash terror in Bangalore, police said.
