Legal aid programme spreads awareness about child rights in Ahmedabad

The Gujarat Legal Aid Society and a group of advocates from the Chhara community had organised a legal aid seminar in the Kubernagar area of the city. Judicial magistrate VJ Kalotra and BJ Ganatra were present in the programme along with many advocates from the Chhara community.

"The programme was organised as per the order of honourable chief metropolitan magistrate and additional chief justice," chief organiser Gopichan Chhara told DNA. He also said that the legal aid programme was organised in order to spread awareness related to the 'Child rights issues' and 'Laws for the protection of women.'

As many as 400 to 500 people were present at the programme wherein the topics related to child rights and laws to protect the women in society were discussed.

Magistrate Kalotra, metropolitan court number 16, while speaking at the programme, emphasised on laws pertaining to child rights and the consequences of not following them. He also spoke on the Domestic Violence Act and some important provisions in it to protect women's rights.

"These seminars are very important as they not only improve the knowledge of the common people, but also clarify doubts related to the law among advocates also," an advocate present in the programme, Umesh Tamaichi told DNA.

Other advocates, Navneet Indrekar, Vasudev Garange and Manoj Tamaichi also shared their views with the people.
