Left parties, RJD and SP today accused the Congress of striking a deal with BJP on support for the Civil Nuclear Bill in lieu of giving a clean chit to Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi in the Sohrabuddin Sheikh encounter case.

"Narendra Modi got a clean chit when Congress required BJP's support for the nuclear liability bill," CPI(M) leader Brinda Karat said here.

Asked whether she was indicating a "deal" between the two parties, Karat said it was up to the people to make out.

Expressing similar sentiments, RJD chief Lalu Prasad charged that Congress silenced parties like SP and BSP and reached an understanding with BJP on nuclear bill by using CBI as a tool.

"BJP was also asked (by Congress) not to raise the issue of price rise," he said.

Prasad claimed that BJP's silence on price rise and its support to the nuclear liability bill were a result of the understanding that Modi will be given a clean chit by the CBI in the Sohrabuddin case.

He also flashed a newspaper report quoting a CBI official that no evidence has been found against Modi in the encounter case.

SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav said BJP and Congress "are one and they cannot be trusted".

He alleged that BJP used the nuclear liability bill to bail out Modi. "It is a result of an understanding between the two," he said.
