Left parties would attack the government on the rising prices of petroleum products, food and other essential items and raise the issue of mining scam in the monsoon session of Parliament beginning next week.

The parties would also take the government to task on the Bhopal gas case verdict of the Supreme Court and its repercussions, Left sources said.

The four parties are likely to link the liability and compensation issues in the Bhopal gas case with the Civil Nuclear Liability Bill, pending before a Parliamentary Standing Committee, the sources said.

This was decided at a meeting Left leaders here which was attended by Prakash Karat (CPI-M), AB Bardhan, Sudhakar Reddy (both CPI) and Debabrata Biswas (Forward Bloc).

RSP leaders, who were not present as they were away attending a conference of their trade union wing, were also consulted over phone, the sources said.

They said the progress in implementation of Ranganath Mishra Commission's recommendations would also be taken up during the session.

The Left parties would demand a law on food security that would guarantee a universal distribution system, covering all sections of people.

The sources said a strong demand would also be made to get the long-pending Women's Reservation Bill passed by the Lok Sabha. The legislation has already been approved by the Rajya Sabha.
