Left MPs condemn aerial bombing of Libya

Raising the issue during zero hour in the Rajya Sabha, CPI (M) member P Rajeev said that the aerial ‘attacks were a dangerous act of aggression on Libya.’

Condemning the aerial bombing of Libya by Western forces, Left parties, supported by the BJP, on Wednesday asked the Indian government to seek a review of the UN resolution and demand halt to the ‘aggression’ on that country.

Raising the issue during zero hour in the Rajya Sabha, CPI (M) member P Rajeev said that the aerial "attacks were a dangerous act of aggression on Libya."

He said what NATO forces had done in Iraq, they were now repeating it in Libya.

Noting that hundreds of people have been killed, he said the aerial bombing were acts of "gross violation of Libya's sovereignty".

He said NATO had used the UN Security Council resolution to attack Libya in which India had abstained.

Rajeev urged the Indian government to demand review of the UN resolution and stop aggression on Libya.

The CPI (M) also appealed to the government to come up with a resolution to condemn the attack on Libya by NATO forces.
 
In a separate zero hour mention, M V Mysura Reddy of TDP expressed concern over a recent incident in United Kingdom where a Hyderabad-based employee was burnt to death.

An MBA graduate Sunil Kumar died when the house where he was living was put on fire because of a dispute between the landlord and his son, he said.

Reddy also raised an incident in which a 24-year-old Indian girl was raped and then killed in Australia recently.

Ramdas Agarwal of BJP said the Rajasthan government and the police had not acted on deaths of pregnant women in Jodhpur and incidents of atrocities on women.

Mabel Rebello of Congress wanted a reply from Home Minister P Chidambaram on reports of tribals in Dantewade being caught in cross fire between Naxals and police.
