LD alumnus linked to satta

Ahmedabad rural police was shocked to unearth the alleged links of an alumnus from the LD Engineering college in the satta batting racket operating from the city.

The Riot Response (RR) cell of DIG, Ahmedabad range and a team of local crime branch busted two different gangs involved in satta betting during the England-Australia match and arrested seven people in two different raids.

Rikin Desai, 40, a resident of Suncity in Bopal, is a BE in Civil engineering is the alleged kingpin of the betting racket. His two subordinates were also arrested and it was found that he has a turnover of around Rsl lakh per day. “He basically lives in Mumbai and have shifted his base to Ahmedabad especially to operate his satta betting business,” said police sub inspector, RR Cell, PK Deora while talking to DNA.

Desai passed out from the LD Engineering college in the year 1991 and later tried to get employment in many different firms. During primary interrogation, Desai told police that in one of his job he had to bear huge loss amounting to lakhs of rupees for a minor mistake and after that he decided never to do a job again. He then got involved in satta betting.
The police arrested Desai’s cook, Bhavanishankar Pandit, and Hiren Vyas a resident of Anand during the raid.

In another raid by the local crime branch of the Ahmedabad Rural police, four people were arrested, while one absconded. “Ketan Gandhi, the kingpin of this gang has a turnover of Rs50 lakh per day and is connected to several bookies in the country,” said deputy inspector general of police, Ahmedabad range, BD Vaghela while talking to DNA. However, Gandhi is still at large, police reveal.

Among the arrested were Nimesh Thakkar, 21, and Jatin Sharma, 25, two residents
of Mumbai, Hiten Patel, 24 a resident of Khambhat and Nathu Parmar, 22, who belongs to Rajasthan.
