Lawyer of 'humiliated' Brit woman to file case against defence advocate

Defence lawyer Sanjay Prajapati in the eye of a storm  for allegedly humiliating in open court a British woman victim in a molestation case faced the prospects of a defamation suit.

Meena Jagtap, the lawyer for 23-year-old Kaya Eldridge, alleged that she was also subjected to humiliation during the trial by Prajapati.

Prajapati had allegedly said in the court on Tuesday, "If I were a woman and behaved like her (Jagtap), one man would go to jail daily."

"I will be filing a defamation case against Prajapati soon. I won't let him get away with this remarks," Jagtap said.

"I am also writing a letter to the Bar Council, the High Court and the State Women's Commission describing the entire chain of events," she said, adding she was in the process of drafting the letters.

Eldridge, a 23-year-old British woman who had come for a three-month internship with an NGO here, was allegedly molested by a plumber Pragnesh Chhatrada in her house. She had filed a complaint against him and he was arrested and later chargesheeted.

During the hearing of case in the metropolition court, Eldridge and her lawyer Jagtap said that Prajapati humiliated them.

On Tuesday, Eldridge had written a letter to the Gujarat High Court chief justice KS Radahkrishnan saying that she was humiliated by Prajapati who asked irrelevant questions like if she smoked and drank and was she living illegally in India.
